Houston to Stephen J Austin SP, San Felipe, TX

All went to plan this morning and we said ‘see y’all later’ to the team at DeMontrond and got on the road heading south on the I45 to join the I10 west to get us out of Houston.  It sure is a big place and takes a bit of escaping!

Interchange options I45 to I10, they make good roads here! 

There are lots of huge buildings alongside the interstate and they often don't have any signage, the only clue is the multitude of 18 wheeler trucks parked alongside, so we gather they are distribution warehouses but for whom we have no idea.

We only had one problem on our debut journey for 2018, the motor AC isn’t giving any cold air so we had to run the generator and the house AC to keep us cool.  Kinda need it as the sun is streaming in and it’s 30C+. 

A large grocery shop enroute dented the Visa card but filled the pantry and the beer/wine fridge and by 1.30pm we were set up at pull-thru site #7, with full hookup, at Stephen J Austin State Park.  It’s 34C now and we are getting ourselves sorted.  

We felt like we were at home as soon as we got back into the RV and we are gradually reacquainting ourselves with how we usually do stuff.  Inside the coach was pretty clean and tidy considering it had been left for over 6 months, not very many dead (or live) bugs to vacuum up.

Unpacked the bags, stowed the groceries, cleaned and tidied and then it was time for a relax outside in the shade of the leafy trees bordering our site.  We see our first squirrel of the trip, they are so cute with their fat little chubby cheeks,  I want some for home!

After dinner, go for a wander around our loop, there are fireflies glowing in the grass and deer wandering through the park.  Had a long chat to the Park Host who was out walking his dog and he tells me there are bambis around now too, just look for a spotty brown hump showing just above the level of the longer grass and there you will see the babies!

Won’t be a late night tonight, it’s been quite a full-on day, but a good one, we are happy!
